The Past History of Victory Baptist Church
Under the direct leadership of God, John Hankins, his wife Dorothy, and their daughter came to Springfield and started Victory Baptist Church. On the 6th of July 1975, Victory Baptist Church held its first service with ten souls present for Sunday School and eleven souls present for the morning service. A missions’ outreach was started with this first service and has continued to be an important part of the ministry.
Through door-to-door visitation, God blessed and allowed the church to increase in attendance with souls being saved, baptisms, and members added. With this growth the church was able to purchase its present building on May 8, 1976. The first services were held in the current location on June 2, 1976.
Then in September 1979, Victory Christian School was started with twenty-seven students in attendance. In 1990, Pastor Hankins felt led to call Jerry Stinger of Oklahoma City to come and take over as principal of Victory Christian School. John Hankins continued pastoring here at Victory Baptist Church until July 1992.
Though God had called the Hankins elsewhere, God did not leave Victory Baptist without a shepherd. Brother Hankins asked Jerry D. Stinger to take over as pastor of Victory Baptist Church. After prayer and the Lord’s guidance, Brother Jerry agreed. The church took a vote, and Jerry D. Stinger became pastor of Victory Baptist Church in 1992. Brother Stinger remained pastor with the help and encouragement of his wife, Alice, until the Lord called him home on December 25, 2007.
Again, God did not leave the church without a shepherd. Dan Stinger had been the youth pastor here since 2001 and upon the going home of his father, he was asked to fill the pulpit. By the request of the people, Dan Stinger candidate and was unanimously voted in as pastor with a congregation averaging at forty-eight people. Since then the church has grown to an average attendance of 150 people. Pastor and Mrs. Stinger as well as their family are excited about what the Lord has done through Victory Baptist Church over the past 15 years, and they are looking forward to what God will continue to do. What God has done thus far through this church and His people is nothing less than miraculous.
